AOL Ventures - Associate

AOL Ventures, a new seed-stage investment division of AOL dedicated to fostering global innovation and building long-term capital appreciation, is seeking an Associate who will be involved in all stages of the investment process as well as portfolio management. AOL Ventures will help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into companies by attracting and growing innovative initiatives and talent in the US, India and Israel.

The successful candidates will be a key member of a small team. This individual will be a highly analytical, innovative, driven, self-starter with global VC and/or transactional experience in the Internet/new media space.

Responsibilities to include (but not be limited to):

Source new investment opportunities through networking and strategic partnerships.

Identify relevant emerging areas of strategic importance to AOL.

Create and support point of view on potential investments.

Conduct all stages of due diligence to include: financial modeling, market analysis; and primary and secondary research.

Provide a high level of support to existing portfolio companies through analysis and strategic planning.

Assist with the development of leading edge, entrepreneurial-friendly processes, procedures and investment theses.

Qualifications:

Proven entrepreneurial operating experience.

“Early stage”, Seed VC experience.

Strong International business experience.

Proven analysis and research expertise.

Strong written and communication skills.

Ability to interact and communicate at all levels from CEO to individual contributor.

Ability to think and take action independently Ability to self-direct, analyze, evaluate, and quickly form independent investment judgments on a wide variety of businesses.

Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

Proven experience and demonstrated expertise in new technologies, products, and innovation.

Thrives in an entrepreneurial division of a larger company.

Desired Skills and background:

Recognition for exceptional performance and/or achievements, such as being selected for a fellowship(s), grant(s), scholarship award(s), citation(s), etc.

Strong network/alumni associations with top school(s) and/or entrepreneurial networks.

Experience with cloud computing, virtualization, digital media.

Education and Experience:

A minimum of 5 years experience in VC, PE, Corp Dev. and/or directly related experience.

Professional experience in an Internet and/or a new media focused organization.

Preference is a degree in Computer Science or directly related discipline.

BA/BS required.

MBA preferred.

Unique requirements:

Ability to travel extensively, both in the US and abroad.

Ability to work the flexible schedule(s) associated with a start up environment.
